Sama Scarlett Retreats
Who am I?
Scar - Surf & Yoga Coach
Hi I'm Scarlett, or Scar.
Â
I quit my corporate job back in 2023 to start living more in balance. That year, alongside my full-time office job in Leeds, I had worked to bring a first-year wellness festival to reality, and after that, I realised that there was more to living than working in a job that didn't fulfil me.

Having always loved the ocean, I moved to Newquay, Cornwall, alone, to do an outdoor instructor course and start my marketing consultancy business.
Â
I've been teaching in Newquay ever since. Whilst also working as a marketing consultant with some of the biggest names in the surf and wellness industry.

At the end of 2025, I was lucky enough to travel with work to Indonesia, where I visited different surf camps and then trained as a Divemaster.
Â
2026 started with what was supposed to be a 6-week trip to Sri Lanka to write an article about surfing, and turned into 5 months.
Â
At the end of it, I completed my 200-hour yoga teacher training in Yin and Vinyasa Yoga.

Now I'm a surf coach, a yoga teacher, a divemaster, and founder of Sama Scarlett Retreats.
The Surfing
Max & the Hand Laid Eggs Team
Hand Laid Eggs are one of Cornwall's most respected surf schools, based in and around Newquay.
Â
Led by Max, the coaching is encouraging and completely tailored to where you are, whether you've never stood on a board or you're looking to improve. You will be grouped with others who are the same level as you.
Â
Scar will also be in the water to support all of the groups.
Â
No egos, no pressure to perform. Having fun is the priority always.Â
The Wine
Rachel Lee - Head Winemaker
Rachel is a Master of Viticulture and the Head Winemaker at Cobble Hill Vineyard in Norfolk.
Â
She has curated and chosen every glass you'll drink this weekend, from the welcome wine on Friday evening to the Saturday night three-course pairing dinner.
Â
There'll be a genuine story behind each bottle.

We'll also have a bottle chosen for us to paint on Saturday afternoon.

The Chef
Emma Simpson - The Ginger Table
Emma is a private chef who believes that great food is one of the simplest ways to bring people together.
Â
Every meal this weekend has been crafted around fresh, seasonal ingredients and carefully planned to be balanced and delicious.Â
Â
Breakfasts will be hearty and nourishing. And the highlight will be the three-course Saturday dinner designed with Rachel's wine pairings.Â
Â
Emma will be cooking with your dietary needs in mind from the moment you book.
Why Sama?
Sama means balance, equality, and evenness of mind. It's a Sanskrit word that represents what we want our retreats to embody.Â

I'm a big believer that the best things in life come when you find a space in between that works for you, rather than labelling things as good or bad. From personal experience, I've found that sometimes choosing to live life to the full is what your soul needs. More important than always chasing optimisation and berating yourself when you fall short of that.

Being kind to yourself and understanding that balance brings the joy and health into living. I want to create spaces where people can slow down and connect, both by deeply intentional yoga classes, learning new skills (without chasing perfection) and laughing together over some fantastic wine.
